When you make a QR code, you're choosing between two fundamentally different types — static and dynamic. Picking the wrong one can mean reprinting thousands of codes later, so it's worth understanding the difference.
A static QR code has the destination baked directly into the code itself. Once printed, it cannot be changed. If the URL it points to ever changes, the code is useless and must be regenerated.
Static codes are perfect for: permanent information like a WiFi password, a fixed contact card (vCard), or a one-off personal use where the destination will never change.
A dynamic QR code points to a short redirect link that you control. The destination can be changed anytime without reprinting the code. You can also see analytics — how many scans, when, and roughly where.
Dynamic codes are ideal for: marketing campaigns, product packaging, restaurant menus, posters, business cards, and anything where the destination might change or where you want to measure performance.
For anything business-related, dynamic is almost always the better choice — the ability to edit and track is worth it. Use static only for simple, permanent, personal codes. Our generator supports both, and Business plans unlock unlimited dynamic codes with analytics.
